Advent Reflection Day

On Monday 30th December, we held a whole school Advent Reflection Day. We began this special day by having a whole school liturgy lead by Issie .

In year 3, we talked about the Advent wreath and what it represents, before making our very own wreaths to take home. We will add a new candle each weeks until Christmas.  We discussed the importance of Advent and how it is a time for waiting and preparing for the coming of Jesus. Everyone wrote an advent promise which we hope to fulfil during this important time. The children also contributed to a Reverse Class Advent Calendar by creating tasks and prayers they can carry out to show ‘giving’ during the season.

At the end of the day, we all joined together – virtually! Each class shared their class wreath and the first candles were lit. It was  then time to take a moment in prayer and to reflect.

Y4 take stock on Advent Reflection Day

Year 4 started the season of Advent with a day of prayer and activities on November 30. Beginning and ending the day with liturgies with our school chaplain, Issie, the children also made a class Advent wreath and individual ones to take home too. They will add a candle to it each week as we move nearer to Christmas and think about the Hope, Love, Joy and Peace they each represent.

Lanterns

After listening to the story ‘Owl Babies’, we talked about feeling scared like Sarah, Percy and Bill.  The baby owls felt scared whilst their mummy owl was out hunting for food. Sometimes people feel scared when it is dark so we made lanterns to remind us that the light can make us feel safer and happier when it is dark.

F1 Anti-Bullying week – WB 16.11.20

This week in F1 we have been focusing on ‘Anti-Bullying Week’.  We listened to the story of the ‘Rainbow Fish’ which helped us to think about the importance of sharing and being kind.  Following on from the story, we decorated the Rainbow Fish with colourful and shiny scales and talked about ways that we can share.  During this weeks collective worship, the children thought about how to be a good friend and show kindness; ideas were then scribed on to a jigsaw template that will form part of a whole school display. We also made friendship bracelets and friendship wands for each other as an act of kindness.

Y3’s Stone Age Enrichment Day

On November 25th, Y3 were treated to a day of fabulous Stone Age-themed activities to support their learning for their Advent term topic. As well as dressing up as archaeologists and taking part in an archaeological dig, the children also learned about cave art, hunter-gathering and extinct animals.

It’s all Greek to Year 4!

On November 25th, Y4 were treated to a day of fabulous Ancient Greek-themed activities to support their learning for their Advent term topic. As well as dressing up in traditional dress and taking part in an Olympics ceremony, the children also learned about the ancient myths and legends from the period including the tale of Pandora’s box.

Creative Cave Paintings

After learning lots about Stone Age people and how we know about how they lived, we decided to create our own cave story. Using brown paper to look like a cave, we used earthy pastel colours to create our hand signature and smudged the edges. We used black charcoal to create the outlines of the people hunting and the animals they hunted.

It’s a rap for Y4 e-Safety gangs!

THE children have spent time this term looking at the crucial subject of e-Safety in ICT and the impact it can have on their own lives. After discussing the various issues revolving around safety when using social media, mobile phones, games consoles and the internet in general, the children penned and performed an e-Safety rap of their own discussing those issues. You can watch a couple of their tracks above!

Anti-Bullying Week – Y3 united

To mark this year’s Anti-Bullying Week, the children spent time discussing the theme of this year’s event ‘United Against Bullying’, the types and causes of bullying and what we can do as a school to combat it. We discussed who we could talk to if you or someone else was a victim of bullying and created beautiful hands – each finger showed a different person you can reach out to. To think about how we can spread happiness, we wrote thoughtful acrostic poems about kindness.

Year 4 unite for Anti-Bullying Week

To mark this year’s Anti-Bullying Week, the children spent the afternoon discussing the theme of this year’s event ‘United Against Bullying’, the types and causes of bullying and what we can do as a school to combat it. They then worked in their small groups to devise a drama to act out in front of the class based around a form of bullying and how it can be addressed.
