Getting to grips with a narrative

The children spent the morning examining a different text each as a group. By discussing the descriptive language, writer’s tools and narrative features used they were then able to explain why it was such a successful short story ahead of writing one of their own.

Y4 are open to persuasion!

Ahead of producing a persuasive letter, the children shared Oliver Jeffers’ The Day The Crayons Quit and discussed the value of each colour crayon. They then picked one and recorded in their groups the reasons why their colour is the best. After sharing their ideas, they then went up against another colour and debated who was best using a range of persuasive language and openers.

Performance is All About Me!

After examining the features of what makes a great performance poet and watching some of the experts in action, the children had a go themselves in literacy in their first week back. Using expression, rhythm and actions they brought to life a poem called ‘All About Me’ with real dramatic effect.
