Walking with my Iguana…

For the last few weeks we have been analysing and up-scaling a poem called ‘Walking with My Iguana’ by Brian Moses. This poem is humorous with lots of rhyming so is perfect to perform!

As a class, we worked together to produce a performance that included expression, volume, appropriate actions and music using drums. What do you think?

Great Year 3 bake off!

In Maths we are learning about how to measure mass using grams and kilograms. We began the lesson by estimating weight in grams. Our task was then to follow a set of instructions and accurately weigh the ingredients, in grams, using scales.

In teams, we made fairy cakes and chose a special ingredient to add. At the end, we had a guest judge come in to taste and announce the winners!

Hinduism Week

Puja and Arti in the Mandir

Today we watched a video about worship inside the Hindu temple.  We found out about all the different rituals involved and the symbolism of each.  Next, we drew pictures of the many objects used and wrote about why and how they are used.

Flowers and food are offerings made to God as Hindu’s believe their God to be like a real person. We enjoyed making our own flowers and baking Prasad which is a sweet paste used as an offering and later shared amongst the worshippers.

As the Mandir is filled with pictures and statues of gods, we also chose some our favourite gods to draw which could also be added to our shrine.

At the end of the session a group of children created a shrine made up of all the things we had made and together we said the Aum prayer.

Poetry comes to life in Y4!

After examining the features of what makes a great performance poet and watching some of the experts in action, the children had a go themselves. Using expression, rhythm and actions they brought to life a poem called ‘Nothing To Do’ in their pairs like the budding thespians they are!

Hindu Day in Y4 goes down a treat!

The children spent the morning learning about the various Hindu gods and goddesses, symbols and their importance in the Hindu temple, the Mandir, to celebrate Other Faiths Week.
After choosing to illustrate and write about their favourite of the gods, they enjoyed a mini-vegetarian feast of chapattis, poppadums, bhajis, pakoras and samosas – yum!
