Baptism

Signs and Symbols topic October 2021

In RE we have been thinking about the celebration of Baptism. So that the children understood the signs and symbols involved in the Sacrament, they re-enacted the celebration in groups.

Year 6 visit Mela at the Art Exchange

Year 6 visited the Art Exchange on Friday 10th September to take part in a workshop to create work to be part of the Mela exhibition at the weekend! They learnt about the Phad Chitra and Madhubani styles of painting that originate from parts of India. The children studied examples, were given some tips then had a go at creating their own using paints made from natural resources such as grass and turmeric!

Pizza and ZZZZs at Y4 sleepover!

THE children had a whale of time at the Year 4 Sleepover when the whole class slept in the hall. After setting up their beds for the night, the children enjoyed time with their friends on the field, before coming together for pizza and drinks. They then drank hot chocolate and watched Over The Moon before they bedded in for the night for a well-earned rest!

Pentecost reflection day

Today we celebrated the Pentecost, which is the birthday of the Church. We remembered the coming of the Holy Spirit when the disciples were filled with the gifts (love, joy, kindess, hope, wisdom, awe and wonder and courage) and how they used these in their lifes. The theme for the day was Change Begins With Me and thinking about how we can used the gifts of the Holy Spirit to make the world a richer place.

We made these pinwheels that we can put out into our home / school garden and watch them spin round so we can see God’s energy in action.

As well as this, we made bracelets with the words linked to Pentecost. It is our way of spreading the good news and helping us be missionay disciples.

A great part of the day was a drumming session we had with Mr Walters where we sang songs of praise together and used the drums to express the joy of being filled with the Holy Spirit.

Our class mission is to help people less fortunate than us in the world. We have decided to make something to sell in order to raise money to buy a world gift from CAFOD. We will keep you posted about this in the coming weeks.

Spirits high as Year 4 celebrate Pentecost!

The class marked the feast of Pentecost with a jam-packed day of reflection and activities. With a theme of ‘Change Begins With Me’, we spoke about how the disciples had a choice to act before coming up with a mission to help our local community.
The also made bracelets to help with their prayerful reflection, took part in a drumming workshop and made a pinwheel to show the power of the Holy Spirit.

Fancy dress Friday gets off to a great start!

Following a strange start to the Lent term, the children raided the wardrobe to end their first week of remote learning in style on January 8 when they donned their best fancy dress items.

After joining several ‘live’ maths and literacy lessons, the children relaxed after all their hard work in their wackiest outfits – don’t they look great!

Panto!!

Year 2 had the ‘best afternoon ever’ watching the Nottingham Playhouse panto, Cinderella, this afternoon! It was made all the more exciting by the dark classroom and the snacks and drinks kindly provided by the parents. The children stamped their feet, booed and cheered in all the appropriate places and generally had a fantastic time.

Y4 will go to the ball!

Y4 didn’t let the Covid-19 restrictions stop them getting their annual pantomime fix as they watched Cinderella in class!
Enjoying a treat of popcorn and a fizzy drink, the children lapped up the streamed performance of the Nottingham Playhouse production and even shouted out ‘he’s two metres behind you!’ to the cast members!

Chicks!

We were so excited to receive our 10 eggs in Year 2. We watched them carefully as they sat in the incubator and then, on Wednesday, lots of pipping and hatching began. The children were lucky enough to actually see one of the chicks finally breaking through its shell and taking it’s first breaths in the outside world. When their feathers dried out the chicks were transferred to the booster box where they were kept warm with a special heat lamp and they began to eat proper food and drink water. We were shocked to discover that, even though 2 of the eggs didnt hatch, we could still count 9 chicks! This meant that two chicks had actually hatched from one egg! Twins! Amazing! All of this excitement and joy at look  ing after our chicks will help the children in their Science work to understand animal life cycles.
