Y4’s Visit To The Forest!

As part of their persuasive adverts topic, Y4 headed to the Forest Recreation Ground for the morning to vox-pop members of the public.

Ahead of planning and writing their own advert for Goose Fair and Bonfire Night, the children quizzed the public about their favourite elements of the events with the aim of collecting some super comments to put into their work.

Here are the children with their results back at school.

From Land’s End to the Major Oak!

Filip P with his LEGO Big Ben.

Amy with her Major Oak creation.

Lilia with her sign post from Land’s End.

Sarah with her edible Angel of the North.

To celebrate their Welcome to the UK topic, the children produced a range of landmarks from across the country.

Ranging from a Big Ben made from LEGO, a bourbon biscuit Angel of the North and a gigantic sign post from Land’s End, the children pulled out all the stops!

They are all proudly displayed outside our classroom.

A walk down feelings alley…

Diana gets into character.

To introduce our new class stimulus in literacy, A Child’s Garden, a couple of children got into character and were questioned by the rest of the class about how they felt about being kept in a refugee camp away from their homes. This helped generate emotive vocabulary they could then transfer to their writing.

Father David drops by!

Fr David is quizzed by Y4.

We invited Father David into Y4 as part of our topic, Community.

After speaking in detail about the duties he carries out as the parish priest for St Mary’s and St Paul’s, the children asked him lots of questions about his vocation, his family and the impact his job has on the local area.

Advent Reflection Day

On Monday 3rd December, we held a whole school Advent Reflection Day. In year 3, we talked about the Advent wreath and what it represents, before making our very own class wreath.  We discussed the importance of Advent and how it is a time for waiting and preparing for the coming of Jesus. Everyone wrote an advent promise which we hope to fulfil during this important time.

After sharing our promises with the class, we added them to our wooden wreath which we proudly displayed in our classroom!

Cooking up a storm!

Corned Beef Hash

To complete our WW1 topic we made corned beef hash.  The photos below show the stages we used: developing our chopping skills (using the claw and bridge grip); cooking the ingredients in the frying pan and finally enjoying the food. Yum!

It’s all GREAT in Year 5!

GREAT Project

We recently took part in the GREAT Project lessons.  They taught us all about relationships, what makes them healthy or not, and how to deal with a relationship we aren’t happy with.  In one of the sessions we were asked to create a poem, song or recipe about what a healthy relationship consists of.  Use the link above to watch a video demonstrating this.
