Our first Class Retreat

On Monday the 28th September Issie, our school Chaplain, came to deliver our retreat. In the morning, we had a collective worship focussing on humility. She began by playing us a song on her guitar and we discussed what a home means to us. We talked about how each home can look different to each person but the principles are the same; love, respect, honesty, appreciation and kindness.

We focused on a piece of scripture from John 13:34-35 that teaches us to love one another. To help us appreciate what we have, we played a game where we took a step forward for every luxury we have. Then, we looked back to see Issie there on her own! She explained how there are many children in the world that do not have a home. We took a moment to reflect and say a prayer for children that are less fortunate that ourselves.

Y3’s Volcanic eruption experiment!

This half term, Y3 are learning all about natural disasters. We watched a volcanic eruption and learnt about the pressure that builds under the crust, causing a volcanic eruption. To help us understand further, we created a chemical reaction using bicarbonate of soda, vinegar, washing up liquid and red food colouring to make our own volcanic eruption!

Persuasion is the key for class debate!

Ahead of producing a persuasive letter, the children shared Oliver Jeffers’ The Day The Crayons Quit and discussed the value of each colour crayon. They then picked one and recorded in their groups the reasons why their colour is the best. After sharing their ideas, they then went up against another colour and debated who was best using a range of persuasive language and openers.
