A Visit from Poppy the Guide Dog

Today, we had a visit from Ms Spray’s mum and her guide dog Poppy.  Poppy is 10 years old and helps Ms Spray’s mum to get about and do her jobs. She showed us how good Poppy was at following commands. We gave Poppy some snacks and we all got the opportunity to  stroke her.

F1 and F2 Police Community Officer Visit

F1 and F2 had a very special visitor in class today,  Police Community Officer Lucy.  She spoke to the children about her job, reassuring them that if they need help the Police will keep you safe.  She also emphasised the importance of knowing the 999 number and their home address. We then went outside to find out about her police car.  The children loved trying on the hats and jackets, sitting in the police car, looking at the flashing lights and listening to the siren.  What an amazing day!  Don’t forget to wave next time you see a police officer in their car.

Forest School

This week the EYFS children made beautiful mud paintings. They collected soil and explored mixing the soil with water to find a good texture to paint with. They then used it to create some fabulous pictures.

Christmas dinner

Today we had our Christmas dinner and thanks to the kitchen staff, it was delicious! We wore our Christmas jumpers and got into the festive spirit.  We made a card for Safiya, to say thank you for looking after us at dinner time.

Nativity play

Today we took part in the Nativity play to tell the story of the birth of Jesus.  We dressed up in our costumes and made a stable in our outdoor classroom.  Tom and Issie filmed us so that our parents will be able to share  the story of the first Christmas. .

Advent Reflection

We shared a special day together to celebrate the beginning of Advent and Issie started the day with the school coming together for a Collective Worship via TEAMS.  We made a class wreath for our prayer table and one each to take home to remind us that God’s love never ends.  We also made a card to send to the care home with messages of hope for the people who live there.  It was a great way to begin preparing for Christmas. Happy Advent everyone!

F2 Retreat day with Issie

Today was our first retreat day with our School Chaplain, Issie! Issie led a collective worship first and then we found out all about baptism. We found out what happens during a baptism and that we are welcomed into God’s family.  Mrs Mullen brought some photographs in of when her daughters were baptised. If you have any photos from home of you being baptised, please bring them into school for our display.

Signs of Autumn

We went on an ‘Autumn Walk’ around the school grounds to look for signs of Autumn.  We found a huge pumpkin and some beautiful leaves that had fallen off the trees and had turned orange, brown and yellow.  We saw some birds in the sky that were migrating to warmer  countries. We looked for hedgehogs and made some homes for them to hibernate in.

Learning outdoor

When the weather allows, we work outdoors as much as we can.  A few weeks ago we went on the field to dig up the last of the potatoes.  Mrs Harrison then made a lovely potato salad.

Lenten Reflection Day

The children spent the day reflecting how they could grow in love like God.  They created giving promises and contributed them in a whole class Collective Worship. During the session Mrs Carberry crossed our heads with Ashes.
