Year 3 Artists!

Year 3 had a fun-filled visit to the Art Exchange on the 10th of September. They took part in a workshop, learning painting styles from different parts of India. The children studied examples and then had a go at creating their own work using paints made from natural resources such as grass and turmeric! The Art Exchange were so impressed, that the children’s art work was used as part of the Mela exhibition!

Oh I do like to be beside the seaside!

The children were set the challenge of producing a coastal scene as part of this term’s geography topic and they came up with some wonderful results! Featuring everything from lighthouses to seagulls and beach parasols, they really outdid themselves!

Forest School

Today the year 1 children took part in their first Forest School session. They had a fantastic time, which was enjoyed by all.  First, we established boundaries by playing the call and response game ‘1,2,3, where are you?” and played a game of trust and team building called ‘Bat and Moth’.  The children listened to the story of the ‘Stick Man’ and reflected of the Journey the stick man went on. The children then created their own journey sticks, and adding natural resources they found during their journey around the outdoors.  Last of all, the children came together to have a drink and biscuit, while reflecting on their journey sticks.

Year 6 visit Mela at the Art Exchange

Year 6 visited the Art Exchange on Friday 10th September to take part in a workshop to create work to be part of the Mela exhibition at the weekend! They learnt about the Phad Chitra and Madhubani styles of painting that originate from parts of India. The children studied examples, were given some tips then had a go at creating their own using paints made from natural resources such as grass and turmeric!

Time to get persuasive!

Ahead of producing a persuasive letter, the children shared Oliver Jeffers’ The Day The Crayons Quit and discussed the value of each colour crayon. They then picked one and recorded in their groups the reasons why their colour is the best. After sharing their ideas, they then went up against another colour and debated who was best using a range of persuasive language and openers.

Potato and bean salad

Last week the children harvested the potatoes and beans which they grew in the summer term of last year.  Today they worked together to make potato and bean salad.  The activity helped the children practise their chopping skills as well as promoting a conversation about safety in cooking.  The best part was tasting the potato salad!

Edible Playgrounds

The school is working on a project called ‘Edible Playgrounds’. This means that over the year, all the children will take part in planting, growing and harvesting fruit and vegetables. They will then use the produce in a cooking activity.  Here are the nursery children harvesting runner beans, potatoes, tomatoes and blackberries.  The children will be using some of this produce to cook a potato and bean  salad.

Sporty start to week for Year 4!

The children enjoyed a morning of sporting challenges when some outside coaches came in to run a series of activities on Monday (September 6).

Coordinated alongside sports leaders from Year 6, the children took part in running shuttles, beanbag throws, long jumps and hurdle challenges as part of the session.

The scores were totalled up and wristbands and medals were given out to the best performing children. They have now been set the challenge of practising at home before the coaches return in three weeks to check on their progress.
