Pizza and ZZZZs at Y4 sleepover!

THE children had a whale of time at the Year 4 Sleepover when the whole class slept in the hall. After setting up their beds for the night, the children enjoyed time with their friends on the field, before coming together for pizza and drinks. They then drank hot chocolate and watched Over The Moon before they bedded in for the night for a well-earned rest!

Friday Book Market

Image

Every Friday in Year 1, we have our book market. This is where we have time to browse all the books carefully before choosing one we’d like to read alone or share with a friend. We find a comfortable spot to sit and read in the classroom. At the end, we come together for Book Talk where some of us share what we have been reading and often recommend our books to others.

Super Scientists

This week, we had Science Week where we got to carry out lots of investigations. Our favourite was the Paper Cup Challenge where we had to see which group could build the highest tower out of plastic cups. Who do you think was the winning team? The trickiest challenge was building a tower from paper as there were so many problems we had to take into account.

Fruity Art

We have been studying the work of Italian painter Giuseppe Arcimboldo who was famous for creating imaginative portraits out of fruit and vegetables. We made our very own portraits in this style which was fantastic fun There were so many things to choose from!

Year 1 Tree Detectives

Year 1 had fun investigating and finding out about the different trees around school as part of our science topic on plants. We made bark rubbings of our favourite trees and used magnifying glasses to find out what was living on the trunks and on the ground around them. Using a British tree, identification sheet, we were able to match up the leaves and identify each of the trees. Did you know that most of the trees on the school field are sycamore trees?

Y4 go in search of the act of forgiveness…

To understand further the Sacrament of Reconciliation, we shared a class discussion of our experiences in the build up to Holy Communion before analysing the meaning of contrition, forgiveness and the peace we get from that.

The children then planned their own liturgy based around forgiveness featuring scripture from Luke 15 (The Forgiving Father), traditional and modern hymns and their own prayers.

Y4 turn quizmasters!

To help launch our new science topic, Sound, the children were set a homework to read a non-fiction book on Sound via the MyOn app and then devise a 10-strong question quiz to showcase what they had learned about pitch, frequency, amplitude, sound waves and decibels. They then came back to school and tested their classmates with their new found knowledge.
