Y3 focus on mental health

Last week, I asked Y3 to think about the challenges they face at the moment. I then asked them to spend some time with their family doing an activity that helps them to feel calm and clear their mind of their troubles.

It was great to see the variety of activities that children chose to do. Some chose to go for a walk, some went on a nature hunt, some painted, some even did ballet! Don’t they look like they are having fun?

Y3 try Cosmic Yoga

For this week’s PE challenge, Y3 all tried Cosmic Yoga from home. This is a mix between stretching, story time and breathing to calm our minds.

Look at these amazing yoga poses…

Year 3 is dedicated to staying active!

Status

It has been a strange start to the Lent term but I couldn’t be prouder of my class. Thank you all who have attended the live sessions and spent time getting used to Teams. It has been a learning curve for us all.

For out PE lessons, I set two challenges. One was to choose an activity and take a photo doing it, and the other was to take part in Miss B’s dance class!  These photos bring a smile to my face 🙂

What a term!

This term, Y3 have produced some fantastic work. As you are not allowed in to school during the current pandemic, I thought it would be nice if you had the opportunity to see some of the fantastic displays that showcase this. We hope you like them. Can you spot your child’s work?

Christmas crafts

Although Christmas couldn’t be the same this year, that wasn’t going to dampen Y3’s spirit!

For the last few days of term, we created some fantastic Christmas-themed crafts to take home and keep. We used a variety of techniques to make two personalised baubles and a snow man card for our families.

Cinderella

We watched a special pre-recorded performance of Cinderella by the talented people at the Nottingham Playhouse. It was great, we dimmed the lights and ate snacks, just like we were actually there! The children stamped their feet, booed and cheered in all the appropriate places and generally had a fantastic time.

Christmas dinner

On 16th December the whole school enjoyed a wonderful Christmas dinner. Year 3 wore fun Christmas jumpers and spent the day listening to Christmas songs, as well as enjoying a variety of Christmas activates!

Advent Reflection Day

On Monday 30th December, we held a whole school Advent Reflection Day. We began this special day by having a whole school liturgy lead by Issie .

In year 3, we talked about the Advent wreath and what it represents, before making our very own wreaths to take home. We will add a new candle each weeks until Christmas.  We discussed the importance of Advent and how it is a time for waiting and preparing for the coming of Jesus. Everyone wrote an advent promise which we hope to fulfil during this important time. The children also contributed to a Reverse Class Advent Calendar by creating tasks and prayers they can carry out to show ‘giving’ during the season.

At the end of the day, we all joined together – virtually! Each class shared their class wreath and the first candles were lit. It was  then time to take a moment in prayer and to reflect.

Y3’s Stone Age Enrichment Day

On November 25th, Y3 were treated to a day of fabulous Stone Age-themed activities to support their learning for their Advent term topic. As well as dressing up as archaeologists and taking part in an archaeological dig, the children also learned about cave art, hunter-gathering and extinct animals.
