It’s all Greek to Year 4!

The children rounded off the first half-term with a day of Ancient Greek activities orchestrated by a company called The Specialists. Featuring Greek classroom life, the alphabet, board games, myth storytelling and the Olympics – it made for an authentic insight into the period.

It’s a rap for Year 4’s e-Safety crews!

The class began their time in Y4 by learning more about e-Safety and how to behave sensibly and safely online. After a class discussion, they set about writing, rehearsing and performing their own e-Safety rap featuring a number of the themes we had spoken about in class over a hip-hop beat. Recording in front of a green screen, it was then edited using iMovies to ensure a more professional ‘rap video’ finish.

Year 4 immerse themselves in library visit!

Year 4 enjoyed a fabulous visit to Hyson Green Library on October 4. After an introductory talk and a quiz by librarian Jude, the children were given time to choose a book and find a quiet spot to read it before taking it out on the class library card. They were also given the opportunity to join the library themselves.

Oh I do like to be beside the seaside!

The children were set the challenge of producing a coastal scene as part of this term’s geography topic and they came up with some wonderful results! Featuring everything from lighthouses to seagulls and beach parasols, they really outdid themselves!

Time to get persuasive!

Ahead of producing a persuasive letter, the children shared Oliver Jeffers’ The Day The Crayons Quit and discussed the value of each colour crayon. They then picked one and recorded in their groups the reasons why their colour is the best. After sharing their ideas, they then went up against another colour and debated who was best using a range of persuasive language and openers.

Sporty start to week for Year 4!

The children enjoyed a morning of sporting challenges when some outside coaches came in to run a series of activities on Monday (September 6).

Coordinated alongside sports leaders from Year 6, the children took part in running shuttles, beanbag throws, long jumps and hurdle challenges as part of the session.

The scores were totalled up and wristbands and medals were given out to the best performing children. They have now been set the challenge of practising at home before the coaches return in three weeks to check on their progress.

Y4 sign off with a day of fun and games!

The class rounded off a fantastic Year 4 with a day of board games, LEGO, cards, a film and rocket lollies! It was lovely to see them playing so nicely and enjoying each other’s company one last time before the summer break.

Well done, we look forward to seeing each other again in September!

Children earn their dough with Roman baking!

Year 4 rounded off their Romans topic for the Summer term by learning all about the diet of the Romans before making spelt bread. Mixing spelt flour with salt and mixing well, they then added olive oil and water to make their dough. After kneading it into a circular shape they then put it into the oven for 45 minutes to bake before slicing it up and tasting it! Yum!

Dinosaurs and zip lines for Y4 trip!

The children enjoyed a well-earned and long-overdue day out at Wollaton Park in the sunshine on Wednesday. After spending time playing in the park, they visited the new T Rex Is King exhibition in Wollaton Hall before lunch and played games on the grass afterwards.
