Forest School – Mini Shelters

Todays Forest School focus was to explore making shelters. In groups, the children worked together to create shelters for the toy rabbit and cat. It was important to work as a team to discuss ideas and create a plan of how they wanted their shelter to look.

Year 3 Artists!

Year 3 had a fun-filled visit to the Art Exchange on the 10th of September. They took part in a workshop, learning painting styles from different parts of India. The children studied examples and then had a go at creating their own work using paints made from natural resources such as grass and turmeric! The Art Exchange were so impressed, that the children’s art work was used as part of the Mela exhibition!

We then went off to the field for Sports Day where they took part in sprint, egg and spoon and obstacles races. The day also included time on the climbing frame focusing on their core strength,  journal writing with Mrs Moss and mindfullness colouring.

Y3’s Pentecost Activity Day

Pentecost Activity Day

On Monday May 24th Year 3 celebrated the birthday of the Church – Pentecost! Throughout school there were lots of fun activities happening all day and the children enjoyed a wonderful celebration as a school. The activities included making bracelets and pinwheels, drumming with Mr Walters, and spending time thinking about how we can all be good disciples of God.

Yr 3’s Retreat Day

On Monday 26th April, Year 3 were lucky enough to have an entire day on retreat! We were looking at our Energy topic, and more specifically Pentecost and the gifts of the Holy Spirit.

We started off with the actions to Burning In My Soul, as it reminded us of Pentecost and the flames. After that we read the story and tried to work out what the gifts of the Holy Spirit were. As a table we had to sort through pieces of paper and decide whether they were gifts or not. Then we tried to see how much of a difference it made to have lots of people spreading a message at once compared to just one person, as there were lots of disciples filled with the Holy Spirit. Then we made posters about gifts of the Spirit, making sure that they explained what they were and how they help us!

After lunchtime we had even more fun! We thought about how all the different people at Pentecost would have felt when the disciples began to talk – scared, excited, perplexed? Each table then had a character assigned to them and they had to choose a volunteer to talk about their experience on the TV show News at Ten. Outside we met all the different characters and tried to work out what happened at Pentecost. It was great fun and really made us all think about the feast in a different way. After that we came inside and filled in a reflection sheet about Pentecost, the gifts of the Spirit, and our feelings.

Y 3’s Lent Promises

During this time of Lent, Christians spend time reflecting and preparing before the celebrations of Easter. By observing the 40 days of Lent, Christians replicate Jesus Christ’s sacrifice by fasting, praying and giving. Year 3 discussed what we can give up (something we enjoy) and something we can do for others. We then wrote down our Lenten promises to help remind us every day of Lent.

Y3 celebrate Chinese New Year

We learnt that Chinese New Year is a 15 day festival filled with celebrations and customs. We looked at the many ways in which Chinese people celebrate and why certain customs are important in their culture. To help celebrate Chinese New Year in style, Year 3 learnt how to do origami, make a Chinese dragon/lion, write Chinese symbols and much more!

Y3’s Egyptian projects

This term our topic has been ‘Ancient Egyptians’. We have spent lots of time learning all about Egyptian culture and spent time at home creating projects that reflect different aspects of this fascinating civilisation. Which one is your favourite?

Year 3’s Science Scavenger Hunt

Year 3 spent the morning thinking like Scientists! They were given a challenge to complete everything on a given list. This list included many activities such as; finding something that melts, something that floats, discovering what would happen if you mix blue and yellow, and much more!

I think Y3 did a fantastic job. Here are just a few pictures of what they found 🙂
